Hi All, The curse of New Mexico VS. Volvo might be over, or is it. As I was leaving Texas heading to Utah, I thought about how many times that I have broke down in New Mexico. I was able to make it all the way through NM and into Arizona before the snow shut me down. I was having a little oil pressure problems in Kansas on my way to Texas, but that seemed like no big deal at the time. I think that the NM curse was just delayed a bit. When I was driving my oil pressure would just drop from 60 PSI to 0 PSI and that would trigger the computer to turn on all the warning lights and buzzers and then shut the engine off. It was not a big deal, I would just push in the clutch to cancel the warnings and the oil pressure would jump right back up to 60 PSI. That seemed to work fine until I got to the pass that takes you in to Page, AZ. It is an 8 mile steep, one lane each way with no shoulder. Because of the shadows and the weather, it was ice covered. When I was about half way up and weighing 78 thousand pounds, it started acting up. If the engine shut off, I would be in big trouble. I would not be able to start on the steep grade as heavy as I was due to the ice. I might have to back down and that would not have been fun. I just nursed it up and over and thought that was it. Come on, it's a Volvo. To make a long story short, I will now just give you a list of the next events.
1) Oil pressure sending unit went out.
2) Air suspension valve went out. (again)
3) Left front wheel seal blew out and ruined the front brakes.
4) Transmission yolk nut is loose . (again)
5) Broke two of the 4 rear axle shock mounts. (see pics below)
If you ever see me driving down the road, stay back, I don't want to hit you with any of the parts that are flying off of me. I was suppose to be on my way to Aberdeen, Maryland, but instead, I'm stuck in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Be Safe!
Jeff
